Ukraine’s largest mobile operator goes offline for millions of users after cyber attack

Ukraine's largest mobile operator, Kyivstar, experienced a cyber attack that caused a widespread service outage for millions of users. The attack also affected internet access and the national roaming scheme. The head of Kyivstar indirectly blamed Russia for the attack, stating that the war with Russia extends to cyberspace. Ukraine's domestic intelligence agency, SBU, will investigate the incident. In addition, a large financial institution, Monobank, was also targeted by hackers. The effects of both attacks were widely felt, with disruptions to public transit systems in Lviv and issues with cash withdrawals from ATMs. Last year, Russian government-backed hackers targeted users in Ukraine the most, according to Google's Threat Analysis Group. Microsoft also warned of potential cyberattacks on Ukraine's infrastructure and government offices by a hacking group linked to the Russian government.
