Sam Altman, the maker of ChatGPT, was fired, leaving many CEOs in the dark, including Mark Zuckerberg and Drew Houston. The news spread quickly through a private WhatsApp chat group of over 100 Silicon Valley chief executives. Speculation arose about the reasons behind Altman's firing. Microsoft's chief technology officer, Kevin Scott, received a call from OpenAI's CTO, Mira Murati, informing him that Altman had been fired and she would be the interim chief. Scott urgently contacted Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who inquired about the abrupt decision, but received no clear answers from OpenAI's board.
