US lawmakers demand Biden administration to probe EU's ‘tech targeting’

The European Commission designated Alphabet (Google), Amazon, Apple, Meta, Microsoft, and TikTok owner bytedance as gatekeepers, requiring them to allow their messaging apps to work with rivals. In response, a group of US lawmakers wrote to President Joe Biden, expressing concerns that the Digital Markets Act (DMA) unfairly targets US companies while excluding Chinese and EU firms. The lawmakers warned that the new rules could harm American economic and security interests. They also questioned why Chinese companies such as Alibaba, Huawei, and Tencent were not designated, and why European companies were not scrutinized.
